I routinely create a folder called 'retired' so can remember where the heck I put something - you never know when you're going to be asked to retrieve a section. |

I use separate Deleted Sections subfolder; had to retrieve on a few occasions...after prelim draft-editing. Personally, I dont' clutter project folder with unused sections, as I use other apps on occasion to rename, create filename lists, etc., on entire folder contents. |

This is so easy using eSpecs LINX as the editor. Click of a button renders any section as "inactive" and another click reactivates the section when/if project team changes mind again, with all edits retained that were made previously. I will never go back to hard editing Word documents again. Way too time consuming. |

Yep, I've learned the hard way never to entirely delete a section...and I still sometimes forget and get bitten. |

Glad to hear that e-specs accommodates these needed specifier operations. Our culls go into the NOT folder. Additions to the project NOT folder made late in the game sometimes get counted when specification scope has significantly crept above the # allotted in our agreements. I too revisit projects to collect odd and custom sections for a working junkyard saved next to our masters folders. Phil, I once had a project that wound up with 28 sections in the "Not Used" folder. It was a very poorly organized and run project. I certainly let the project manager know. |

I also use a "Not Used" folder. I also will sometimes rename a copy of a file "XXXX OLD.com" On a few occassions I have had to refer back to the previous old copy to put something back in the project. I guess this is an advantage to database specification writing software where you can turn on and off text/sections. David G. Axt, CCS, CSI, SCIP Specifications Consultant Axt Consulting LLC |
