131009 WOULD YOU BELIEVE….. ? by Ralph Liebing, RA, CSI, CDT Cincinnati, Ohio Sometimes the most unusual things, or facts occur and we just wonder how they came about, why and the timing. Quite often we have a good surprise; or we see more clearly [as in I am now cataract free!] perSPECtives first appeared in 2005 [in its present form on October 1, 2008]-- see title! I had no idea, and just got curious to track the original copy [luckily still stored in my hoarder file]. It came about via more of a dare then a purely rational need and necessary work. Seems several folks were kicking around different ideas that they felt CSI might pursue, to add to the programs and service to the membership. They all called for action and often really one suggested or “played into” another. A complete list of all the comments was talked about, but no one but one naïve elder out in Ohio grabbed the brass ring and did an article. He knew not what might follow! What followed was a number of opportunities that “required” some sort of comment or response. It was things said that were in need of another perspective, and things that were open-ended which seem to need some direction or clarification. The old one in Ohio, for some odd and unknown reason, went after these opportunities-- with good response [surprisingly] With the encouragement and great help of two very fine ladies, Lynn Javoroski and Margaret Chewning, the old one was set in the direction of a weekly piece. Urging is not strong enough to indicate what “process” really was used, So it began-- an attempt to give other views and ideas. Pounded on education, and maybe a small factor in mobilizing those of a like mind; that education on construction technology is needed and vital, to all participants in the construct in the industry. CSI has responded. Salute! Tried to include some humor and fun items and comments where circumstances or the issue deserved a lighter touch. But more importantly tried to include all members including Product Representatives-- our sisters and brothers in doing the best for our clients and projects. Their insight and help is invaluable-- often crucial to a good solution. Salute! We will try to continue as long as there are situations, comments, or irrelevant that “beg” for another view or comment. Sure the latter will be mine and maybe you don’t agree, but then you did read my input and made your decision—good for both of us! I hope we continue to be a resource, used in newsletters and conversations. I also hope to make your day better, and perhaps conjure up a smile. Thanks so much for these years, your tolerance, and your comments My sincere gratitude to the members of SCIP for their honor and award for this effort |
