REALISTICALLY, LET’S ASSUME....................

Let’s just assume, for the heck of it, that all things on the project are harmonized, and supportive-- balanced and first-class.
The client is rational, considerate, open to suggestions and is not crazy, power-hungry, delusional, hyper, disoriented, or decidedly anti-design professional[?].
Your Project Manager is well equipped for the job-- understanding, delegative, expectant [as in getting good work, not a baby!], open-minded [not mindless], and is not schedule encumbered, discipline biased, or unrealistically demanding.
The Discipline Leads are astute, creative, innovative but realistic, field experienced and not “fountainheadish”, cosmic, delusional, out of synch with the PM, afield with project requirements, or at sea as to appropriate solutions.
And last but not least, the entire project team from PM to grunts are fully aware of, understanding of, and respectful of specifications [including the full range of the project manual], the specifications process and its contribution and the specifications writer—and fully understand that “it is neither criminal nor sinful to finish the specs, EARLY!
Hey, who said all of these pieces had to be factual and not fictional?
Really, no one is advocating creation of SuperTeam to perform project documentation, but what if we all came just a smidge closer to these more attractive demeanors and attributes. One small step on the part of each team member will almost guarantee better project results.
We all understand that perfection, while unachievable, is most certainly worth the quest. Everything in the project is better just for the sake of trying.
What one word or short phrase would you choose to use as a guide to project improvement?
You may pick from many, but let’s try REALISTIC.
REALISTIC!
What is realistic about every person or aspect of a project? Realistic in work produced. Realistic in personal dedication to effort! Realistic fee! Realistic knowledge and competency in personnel! Realistic in that projects really should be in client’s best interest! Realistic schedule for documentation and construction! Realistic client expectations! Realistic estimating, pricing, bidding and final costs! Realistic number of changes, glitches, errors! Realistic coordination and cooperation between disciplines! Realistic initial project programming!
Realistic expectation for earliest submittal of pertinent and accurate information for specs, for adjusting, for editing, for review, for production, for pagination, for reproduction and binding, for distribution................. Oh, sorry, got carried away there for a moment.
Realistic expectation for a smooth running project during construction, a one-item punch list, and prompt [on time; on budget] closeout, owner satisfaction and successful occupancy— See all above! |
