120627 “PREVIEW OF THINGS TO COME…” By Ralph Liebing, RA, CSI, CDT Cincinnati, OH It is not within the purview of this venue to introduce and describe the whole of what is in the offing. It is, though, a place to openly and loudly congratulate in-coming President Greg Markling, President Paul Bertram and the current Board of Directors in their bold action last weekend. This group took a historic, highly commendable and momentous step for CSI, but one that will produce mutual benefits and results to CSI and every element of the construction industry. It is something that does not exist [and did not for decades which no one can explain]. It will address a major fault in the correct and productive documentation of projects and the construction of their base design. By its thrust [to be revealed later or elsewhere] it is a program direly needed by design professionals, students, Interns, A.R.E. applicants, all construction workers, and associated engineers. Since no depth of detail has yet been prepared, please be open and accept this concept and program [when explained]-- be supportive, be open, be curious, be part of it if you choose, BUT don’t doom say or be picayune, don’t diss it, don’t try to make the point that it’s been before and didn’t work. Give it a chance to develop—times have changed and we need to explore what we can do to improve. It is a profound concept and one that has needed addressing for years—give the Task Team a chance! This is a brand new approach and one where CSI can not only provide excellence and abundance of information, but also can become more attractive to more people [called "members”] and can add immensely to the prestige and influence of CSI. Every member can contribute to this effort This program will pose ABSOLUTELY NO THREAT TO THE PRESENT CONFIGURATION OF CSI! It will enhance it ad augment it and will take advantage of a truly golden opportunity for CSI to become a most valuable resource, and leader. An excellent and most informative exchange of ideas is available on www.4specs.com [see thread called “Institute Discussions” near the top of the listing]. It is most fraudulent to depict or allow students [and others] from becoming registered architects in their states, when in fact they do not have ALL of the information necessary. Projects in running from mental though and concept to usable structure required far more tan distinctly and innovative design skills. There is a need of methods of construction, materials of construction, flexible installation and fashioning of same to fit the needs, requirements of the projects [and the changes that occur in each possible iteration. The legalities of state registration require compliance with all laws applicable and construction that is safe and sanitary-- they DO NOT require good design! Hence eye-striking [and mind-boggling] buildings, POORLY designed technically and built according to inadequate documents are not only a disservice to the communities and the users, but they are flatly ILLEGAL. Remember: Building permits [issued by government agencies] permit MINIMALLY safe construction-- so if you can’t do that, we all got trouble!!!! |
