Over various segments of time, different voices have raised the issue of education. Of course much of this involved the CSI course, webinars, booklets, etc; and included the certification programs. Interspersed with these were mentions, pleas, suggestions, logic and other expressions about other education. This is what is being more and more later.
Seems like now, though, there are more concerns and comments wafting in the CSI air. They do not seem to be rumors, but more valid thoughts serving to spur action. Seems like two things openly state parameters, universal in determination, in the more recent chatter and murmurs-- the plan is to provide building technology instruction students in professional fields so they will function at a greater level, based on a solid base of fundamental terminology, construction systems, construction materials, etc; and a new effort to rebrand CSI as it is, and to augment the title to more directed to show what is available. The two efforts-- specs and construction will not be equal but will be far better than the void of construction which plagues today’s drafting room; there, take a pop shot at that name/title]. It is just beginning and has time for a creative solution.
After an expanded period of time, it is finally be openly mention, discussed ad supported by an growing number of members. As the discussions expand there is also an “awakening that the overall situation is grim, and the current students and those coming will have less and less information useful in detailing and putting a building together]”.
And it appears that manufacturers’ representatives can play an important part in this program. Not yet defined and refined, but direct instruction from the reps can be formatted into using studies to expertise of the reps, their level of specific [and detailed] product knowledge and their approach and assistance to the architect.
CSI Selects Conspectus to Teach CCS Webinar Series
The Construction Specifications Institute selected Conspectus to teach specifiers preparing to take the 2012 fall Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) examination offered in October this year. The CCS certificate program is the ultimate certification for construction specifiers. Specifiers must first earn the Certified Documents Technologist certificate as a prerequisite. Earning CCS demonstrates a mastery of CSI's specifying principles and knowledge of construction contracts.
The webinar instructors will be David Stutzman, CSI, CCS, Conspectus founder and principal; Randal Reifsnider, CSI, CCS, Conspectus Kentucky office manager; Clifford Marvin, CSI, CCS, Conspectus New York City office manager
The classes will be presented as live webinars and recorded for future student access. The series consists of six, 90-minute sessions. The live, interactive webinars will begin in July 2012 and will be conducted weekly. They will conclude by mid September. CSI will announce the exact dates and times, soon. The series will be based on the content of the Project Delivery Practice Guide and the Construction Specifications Practice Guide, available from CSI. The series will teach the following topics:
• Construction contract types, agreements and conditions of contract
• Changes in the work and construction documents organization
• Division 01 - General Requirements and production techniques
• Procurement contracting requirements
• Specifying techniques
• Specification writing
