100210 IT’S BBBAAAAACCCCKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!! by Ralph Liebing, RA, CSI, CDT Cincinnati, OH It’s SHOWTIME-- again! Don’t the years fly by? Time to think reservations and start planning. Time for the gathering of the faithful, the curious, the student, the emerging professional, the everyday specifier, the elder-specer, the manufacturers’ rep and the glitz of marketing through booth-exposure and face-to-face “talk”! It’s time for new Fellows, the first timers, those with an educational tale to tell, and those who simply see THE SHOW as the place to be, each and every year. Even in these tough times there can be a reduction of how much time you spend in Philly, or how many side-events you attend, but hopefully there will still be a spark to be there, at least for a time. It is the time of exposure-- seeing the great variety of sizes, haircuts, new wrinkles, new faces, and the renewal of “old” friendships. The time to trade new war stories, as well remembering the past “good ole days"! A time to raise a glass to professionalism, continued good health and fortune, and to the organization. It, too, is a time for serious business. For new thoughts, ideas, and direction for CSI, and what new can be done. How new ventures can be funded and carried out! How existing programs can be re-invigorated and refreshing-- perhaps how they can tweaked to be even better. A time for new understanding; for adjusting to new causes, and to latch onto the new Strategic Plan to see what horizons might bring new challenges, but wonderful returns. A time for expanding, perhaps; for seeking new associations and relationships; for a new image, new efforts and new influences and assistance; for making CSI a more imposing factor in the construction industry. A time, perhaps, to move away from some things, and trek to new places and to the beat of a different drummer, but with the same resolve and expertise at hand. A time for new blood; a blood transfusion; but never bloody combat or the spilling of blood. We’re too good for any of that-- too professional! Besides we really should not misbehave, in any manner, in the City of Brotherly [and Sisterly] Love. The mere mention of the town brings thoughts of its history, what all happened here and what good came out from the various doorways and the various citizens. Why not come out and see what new CSI can do to emulate the historic impact of the City, and the citizenry long passed, but still felt in our lives today. |
