I simply don’t get it!

Like each of you [as far as I know] my days are much the same in what I do and who I am. Our work varies only because of slight hitches in circumstances, design quirks and project requirements. We have to be flexible and innovative at times just to make sure our work matches project expectations, and yes, the wild whims of others [who will go unidentified, but WE know who they are!]. Some of you folks have to do this “matching” on each project due to its unique nature.

Our motivation is that we have a gut feeling that drives us to be the best we can-- accurate, flawless, decisive, expansive, somewhat competitive, of service, and highly professional in our knowledge and general demeanor. It is a fundamental, long-ago-learned set of values we garnered from our home training as well as our office training-- things are best done in one way!

But from what I get, from time to time, there must be several of each of us. Oh, the Good Lord still saw fit to break the mold that formed each of us, but still there is a weird set of quirks in each of us that tend to make us different people at different times-- why I wonder? [I think the Good Lord just had a barrel of fun making us, if for no other reason than to torment each other!!] Oh, we all know some people who evidently relish the opportunity to be different at different times-- from an indifferent pompous a _ _, to a cutesy imp, to a verbose, overwhelming know-it-all bore, to a loving grandparent, to one of quiet resolve to another of raucous discontent…………………. the beat goes on.

I can’t, for the life of me, see where I change at all. I do things just as I think they should be done, in both words, and life. But then someone comes along and find discrepancies in my approach and work-- I am different in person from what I am in word? Really?

Sticking with myself as example of all, to some of you I am an opinionated old man, with a loud mouth, shallow, with little substance, obsolete, with archaic thinking and silly ideas! Perhaps just an endearing foop! To others [and here I can only allude what others send me] I come off as a wise soul, with different but valid perspectives, experienced, with wide purview, and a trove of valuable information; I tend to delight in sharing, offering, and giving aid to others. I love to write and teach, second only to spec writing—n and putting buildings together on paper [!] and for real. But many of you don’t know that I am also a very astute pooper-scooper, door opener, dog walker, and food distributor! [Here I excel, since the herd of dogs we have just put up with me, react, and they don’t talk back].

Oddly enough the same face appears in bathroom mirror every morning; the pills vary only in color and manufacturer, and young ladies in the convenient store, at 5:30 AM now know I’ll ask for a bag for my morning chocolate milk eye-opener, and extra singles for our vending machine at work-- unchanged day by day! But still I carry the load of being a different person at different times to different people-- how does that happen? Me is me! Yet, all you good folks around me seem to see all the shades and variations that make me up, when I see but ONE old codger doing the same[!!!!] every day. Is a puzzlement!

So with all this, what do I see new in 2010? Nothing in me [can’t count on getting any handsomer!!!! and who can exceed perfection!!!!]. But I see much of the very same, and a few smidges of really different and one to two really great opportunities [and hopefully successes] in new ventures and directions. You see, there is still a lot to do and a lot of me the world out there doesn’t know! Wish me luck-- as I wish you!!!
