Does anyone here use Grammarly?

I am a little nervous about downloading and using a "Free" program.

I haven't used it, but none of the grammar helpers I've encountered in MS Word or other programs (or phone apps) seem to have a clue about technical writing.

I have. It is only "free" up to a point. I paid the extra for the premium because it was worth it to me at the time for what I was doing. After that project was done, I kept the free option, but discontinued the premium option.

I have not had any problems with it, and it has helped make corrections. Most of what Grammarly does is part of Word, though. The Premium helps more with crafting the writing. (Especially if one is not the best proofreader. )
