Yesterday I took a tour of a casework manufacturer. A lady met me at the reception desk and walked me over to the other building and to the conference room. While walking I made polite conversation and asked her what she did there. She told me that she was a recruiter. The factory has a full-time person that looks for workers!

There is a trade school in Seattle that tutition is free (subsidized by construction companies). Students get a paid internship while they are going to school and a guaranteed job making good money when they graduate. Guess what?! The school can't find enough people interested in the program!

Where did all the workers go?

In the 1980s, populist politics started a movement of union busting that contributed to a three decade decline in income progress for working class Americans. In the 1970s, I could purchase a house based on my wages as a carpenter. Wages have not kept up with the cost of living. So I do not blame young people who look at the building trades and opt for computer applications and other specialties where the lifetime income is higher and general wear and tear is lower.

When I was going to college everyone wanted to be a lawyer because that is where the big bucks were. I never hear of young people wanting to be lawyers anymore.

There are too many law schools churning out lawyers. Law schools proliferated like mad. Now there are a TON of lousy lawyers. And a ton of JDs who never passed the bar.
