I probably don't have to tell you this because you probably already do, but please wear your seat belt. We had a Chapter member/Board officer killed in a single car accident last Friday. She was not wearing her seat belt.

And make sure everyone else in your car is also wearing their seat belts.

Thank you.

So tragic - prayers for comfort for all who loved her.

So sorry to hear this, David-my condolences to her family and friends. 8 years ago I was struck by a hit and run driver doing about 75mph; I'm firmly convinced my seatbelt saved my life.

COVID deaths may have hogged the headlines for the past few years, but car crashes are the true pandemic.

Yes, please wear your seat belt. I once realized it has become automatic for me to buckle up when I moved my car from the driveway to the garage, a trip of only 30 feet, and had subconsciously fastened my seat belt.

The person that died was April Stokesberry, Immediate Past President Puget Sound Chapter CSI and DuraDeck NW product representative. She was 33 and had just bought a house with her fiancee.

I am sorry if some of you here knew her and and to find out this way.

The Puget Sound Chapter CSI is planning to do something to commemorate her (scholarship, award, etc.)

This has hit us all very hard. April was a very vibrant and enthusiastic young lady who loved CSI and the construction industry.

In high school, I was a the front seat passenger with some friends driving down a dirt path near the water (this was a suburban area). In the path was a manhole rim protruding above grade, which the frame of the car hit. We came to an instant stop. We were only going about five MPH, so no one was hurt, nothing damaged. I was in the front seat of the type that hinged for back seat access, wearing my lap belt. My friend in back hurled forward and landed on top of me (sort of), the seat folded forward. In that instant I realized the power of the belt - otherwise my face would have been plastered onto the metal dashboard. I needed no more persuasion about the benefits of the belt.

A scholarship would be the most fitting way to commemorate her memory (IMHO).

Lynn,

Yes the plan is to create a scholarship(s) in April's memory. Hopefully we can get it done before our Chapter's June Awards banquet.
