Has anyone here on 4pecs ever been involved with developing specifications for European countries or Kingdom of Saudi Arabia? |

No. But I do know that NBS Chorus is used for work in the UK (and Canada) and in a lot of the Middle East. |

For my projects in Saudia Arabia, CSI MasterFormat was known and followed by design and construction teams. Design can be highly customized, given their status of wealth. As for products, SA has access to Middle East, European, Asian, and American markets. Local stone may be used, for example, along with Sika products. |

Russell, what would you like to know? I've worked on lots of projects in both the EU and SA. For EU you're going to want to get familiar with European Codes and Standards. Depending on the country you're working in, you could run into requirements unique to that country or standards that work across the Continent. As often is the case, "it depends." For Saudi you stand a good chance of being able to use ASTM and other US-based standards. A good starting place is to contact the manufacturers you're going to be working with in each location and see what standards they manufacture to. Good luck! |

Great -- thanks for the responses. Happy to learn more. Ken -- contacting manufacturers in those markets is exactly what we discussed as a starting point. |

I have done several projects in KSA and UAE. North American standards such ASTM are common. Don't expect to see a lot of steel studs and gypsum board. CMU from regional sources was the standard for both exterior walls and interior partitions. Most national brands of products we are familiar with in North America have regional reps. |
