My insurance broker just informed me that my liability insurance would not be renewed because I am not a "licensed professional." I have been in business for myself for 11 years writing specifications and 27 years prior in architectural firms. I have worked on hundreds of projects with NO significant issues or a claims. So now what do I do? David G. Axt, CDT, CCS, CSI, SCIP Specifications Consultant Axt Consulting LLC |

Get another insurer. My previous insurer proposed to double my premium rates upon my renewal. I now carry insurance through biBerk (Berkshire Hathaway). It was a very easy online process, less $, same coverage. |

It seems there is all sorts of turmoil in the insurance industry in all lines. I'm on the board of a non-profit that had it's business owner's, fine art, and workers' comp policies non-renewed (we found other, better coverage). I also had to get new carriers after one of my own personal policies had a 70 percent increase. I live in the Boston area - no wildfires, no floods, no earthquakes - but still crazy. Many insurers are facing huge hikes in re-insurance markets, and with insured catastrophes, are pulling back in response. |
