You there! How do they call you? No, not the "pet names" they call you, but your official title.

Office is reviewing job titles, and am interested in what title you carry on your business card, or on other indicators.

Also, if you are part of a department or larger spec staff, what is the title of the head of that unit?

My business card reads "Associate" and on the next line "Specifications". My boss' title is "Associate Vice President, Director of Specifications and Allied Disciplines". In addition to being able to have "CSI" and "CCS" (or whatever) on our cards, the decision has been made to list (if applicable, of course) "LEED AP".

My card is
"Associate Partner"
"Specifications Writer"
I do use FCSI and CCS on the card.

its not typical in our firm that people are "directors" of anything -- we have a couple of those, but not of any architectural disciplines.
We also list any other initials (LEED AP, or whatever) that are applicable.

President

Also, I'm giving some consideration to adding the following to my business card:

"Fast is good, accuracy is better" ....Wyatt Earp

PS: Earp lived to be 80.

In the play The Odd Couple, Murray the cop says "Do you want speed or accuracy!"

They would not call me "Cheif of Architectural Production" so I became "Information Architect"

I know, I know, but it's better then "Hey you!"

I wanted "Queen of Specifications" or "She Who Must Be Obeyed" but didn't get that either. Marc, it's a good thing they didn't call you "Cheif".

My official title is Chief Specifier however our company policy is not to list titles on business cards. However, the astute reader could probably figure out that I'm the spec writer with AIA, CSI, CCS, CCCA following my name.

I wanted "Queen of Specifications" on my cards, too, but was told I would have to have them printed privately to do that. they might actually approve "Office Know-it-All"

Once working for a large corporate firm, they had me fill out a form for business cards. In the blank following the title question I put "Genius". I thought it was a funny little Wiley Coyote reference until I got 500 cards back with "William Wagner, Genius". Everyone thought I was an arrogant bastard. Classic...

My corporate title is Associate. I am the Director of Specifications. On my business card it says:

Brett M. Wilbur, AIA, CSI
Associate
Director of Specifications

Most people in the office just call me the "Spec Guy". I thought about getting a cape with a big 'S' on the front.

I go by many other names, some not so good. Recently, I was branded "The muffin man". Long story.

My card just says ROBERT E. WOODBURN, RA,CSI,CCS" -- due to our standard card format, it's all caps, and the space is restricted, so there's no room for "CCCA" (or even for space between sets of initials).

I don't have a title. When a new secretary kept calling me "sir" I kept asking her not to, lest I start getting age-sensitive. In "title" blanks on forms, I put "architect/specifier"...

Pet names:

What I am called varies by circumstance and what my role is. I am most familiar with: “Hey, you!, “You idiot”, and “&%$* architect.” The later is most often heard during and after contractor claim reviews.

I have tried for years to teach my children to address me a “Lord High Emperor of the Universe”, but have been singularly unsuccessful.

Lead Specifications Writer and Project Manager.

I write most of the specs in our small office, but that's only about 25% of my time. The rest of the time, I'm wearing my architect hat or my manager hat or my marketing hat.

I suppose I could be the Assistant Chief Specifier (since we already have a Chief Specifier), but my card says "Architect/Specifier". As pet names go, though, I guess it's better than Fluffy.

In my previous position, I was known as "DOS" for Director of Specifications, or as "The Lord of the Specs" though I couldn't make the specs dance a jig. Both of these titles jokingly implied a level of authority that of course was nonexistent.

In my new position, I'm called lots of things.
