I might suggest this group adopt the SCIP booth as a gathering place to meet each other, continue any off-line discussions, and/or to leave messages. I think we can arrange for a message board for this discussuion group there for those who are looking to meet specific members.
Ron

PS: Umbrella and propeller hats are OK but you have to stand by the booth next to us.

PSS: Suggestion for Consideration: SCIP membership is now available to in-house specifiers through the newly adopted affiliate membership category.

You see I never pursued the polo shirt offer from Colin cause I assumed that there was no XXL sizes avail, besides I prefer to wear obnoxious, but cute and thoughtfully provoking shirts at conventions and other public gatherings....

I, too, received my shirt from Colin and won't be in Vegas, but I've promised to wear it to our region convention at the end of May in Winnipeg. I'll help wake up the Canadian contingent.

And as a new SCIP affiliate, I don't have my beanie, my umbrella hat, or my propeller hat - probably just as well!

Y'all have a great time - congratulations to the future "F" CSIers - I'll be clinking champagne glasses in spirit.

Hey all spec friends!!!!

I am sooo excited about seeing all you guys and gals again in Vegas!!!

I will be arriving in Vegas on Tuesday and I will be sporting my fav new shirt on Wednesday as well. I look forward to all the endless meetings and great social gatherings.

Hear me now and listen to me later Vegas first timers. Size is deceiving in Vegas. Really. I mean it. It might look like you can walk a couple of blocks to get to your destination, but it ends up being a 40 minute walk! Mirage. Mirage. Mirage. The land is so flat and the buildings are so huge that it causes your brain to think "Oh that is just right there - I can walk there - instead of paying 10 bucks for a taxi."

40 minutes later your laying on the sidewalk out of breath and praying for one of those exterior hotel water misters. Please take my advise. Use taxis when possible!

Also - this goes without saying every year, but just in case, ladies, please wear flats or sneakers. You will be on your feet a lot!!! Unless you prefer walking the convention floor in heels all day long. Tired feet! Not for me.

I have my shirt too. Hat? Mine is pointy and I have to wear it when they make me sit in the corner.

Breakfast? I think the Mirage has an awesome breakfast buffet. All you can eat, with shrimp, crab legs, bottomless mimosa's!! Yummmm.

And Phil, $3,000 bucks? You high roller you. Is that for the black jack table? Me? I'll be at the Texas Hold-em table. (Only during non-convention hours of course)

I will come too. New SCIP affliate, tall fat guy, thick dark glasses, looks like Garrison Keillor (worse for him), working on shaggy gray hair, 4Specs shirt (thank you Colin). I am adding a sign for the back...

"Kick Me, I am on SPUTT".

If SCIP offered propellor beanies, I'd buy one.

I always wondered what happened when those vastly experienced, professional looking spec writer broke loose and became unshackled and got away from their cubes.

It is hard to imagine all those "very professional posters" in the array noted above, but I guess fun exists in all at some level.

Not sure this is a pretty picture-- but it sure sounds like fun.

Safe travel all-- and good luck at the tables [food and otherwise], the wheels, and slots.

Sincere congratulations to the wonderfully accomplished new FCSIers.

Sincerely,
Those stoking the home fires

PS. Not that I am any sort of guru, but you might check my piece about Vegas on the SpecReflections section of Press Room on the CSI web site, just as a precaution before you set sail.

Ralph
Words of wisdom, to consider, won't be gambling in Vegas, but than every day seems to be a gamble of some kind.
Okay, well I'm off tomorrow at 5AM as I have to fly to Fresno first and than will be driving across to Vegas - crazy, I know, but my wife and I don't get much quality time unless we are in a car driving...haven't yet figured out how to write specs while driving across country....I expect to meet all you SCIPers first on Tuesday and than everyone else on Wed-Friday, will look for the blue 4specs shirts, the crazy hats, beanies, and oh yeah the guy with the yellow vest...if anything it should be interesting.

Good trip, ALL!!!!

AFTER THE FAT LADY SINGS.....................
by Ralph Liebing, RA, CSI
Cincinnati, OH

As they strike the displays and pack them in their innovative crates, sweep the floors, and pull down the bunting; as the Vegas airport sees the last of propeller hats, CSI and 4Specs golf shirts and serious looking outsiders [perhaps lighter in the wallet but vicariously “owning” a piece of Vegas!], what can we expect?

Well, Frank Gehry will have pontificated, and shown the future [as he sees it], and the new Fellows will return their rented tuxes and pack away their formal dresses, and the members will overload their flights with stacks of literature, full tummies and shiny CDs. But what will be carried away in the minds, hearts, and determinations of the conventioneers?

Will organizational peace been, not declared, but truly re-installed? Will factions find satisfaction? Will chapter officers, and the other shakers-and-movers be re-invigorated, seeking to find and meet new challenges, to advance the profession, the membership AND the organization?

Will there be a series of new, truly new, resolutions [in addition to the traditional, tried and true annual declarations of ,“Therefore, Be It.....”] which suggest, direct, foster and accomplish new directions, new ventures, new efforts, revamping, streamlining, expanding, and renewal of in-place programs?

Will organizational myopia be placed on a curing and healing path, leading to a future and better image, wider service, increased inclusion, and, well, just a better organization overall?

Listen carefully! Beneath the throbbing of idling car engines, the incessant chatter of people, the laughter, the music, the utter cacophony, you may hear...........

“We truly hope so”!!!!

NO! Wait! There it is, coming clearer and stronger-- another voice saying.....................

“We have confidence in the professionalism of our membership, and we KNOW that some good things were done, and others will be pursued at the grassroots and chapter levels.

Some may be a little disappointed, because perfect we’re not—but successful in convention, we are”!!!

Ralph,
Altho' I, like my colleagues above, am looking forward to enjoying the fun, friendships and comaraderie to be had at convention, you remind us that it is also a time to generate new ideas and plan as we charge off into the next year after we go home.

It is also a time to possibly have the grassroots of our organization express the direction, we as members want our organization to take.

May your vision for the events to take place next week come true and we (quarrelsome tho' we may be at times) come together as the family of CSI can be at its best.
Thank you for starting us off on a positive note!
