The short question is that I'm looking for a Hollow Metal Door Frame/Sidelight Manufacturer that makes a good looking narrow frame. Any ideas? Trying to stay away from the K12 aesthetic. The longer version of the story is that I have a condition where I need to separate an elevator lobby from a parking level for smoke. The door is in a smoke partition so it has to have an S label and be tested to UL 1784. SmokeGuards/Second Swinging Door is not an option. The problem is that NO Aluminum SF manufacturers have done this, except for a few hospital slider assemblies. Ideally, we want aluminum, but its probably not happening anytime soon. Here's the code path for those that are interested. I think most manufacturers offer frames with a narrow 1-inch face dimension that can be fire rated. I just looked at the Steelcraft website and found their FN series. This seems to only be offered as a KD product but I did not do extensive research. J. Peter Jordan, FCSI, AIA, CCS, LEED AP, SCIP

Here's an article from Lori Greene (five years old, but updated in 2019) https://idighardware.com/2015/11/decoded-smoke-door-requirements-of-the-2015-international-building-code/ Reach out to Lori if you have questions. |
