I just received urgent instructions from GP that our specs must be changed from specifying DensDeck Prime to "DensDeck Prime with EONIC Technology" or somehow they won't be able to bid our jobs. Thankfully a brief call to their Tech Line clarified that in fact we can continue to specify DensDeck Prime. Tragic results averted. I hate when marketing people are allowed to communicate with Specifiers. |

Thats a nice email or phone call you received. Looking at the tech data, those are one in the same products. Appears all DensDeck Prime includes EONIC Technology, which is a similar layer to the DensElement layer underneath the face. Most of my projects are public bid projects, so I stayed away from specifying 'EONIC Technology' and just leave it as DensDeck Prime or approved equal. Haven't had any issues yet, but you never know these days. |

"I hate when marketing people are allowed to communicate with Specifiers." That's funny! But shows the importance of follow up and communication! |

Thanks Phil. Please don't get me wrong, I try to promote communication. I prefer that it's with someone who knows what they're talking about and understands what it means to be a resource and not just someone who's pushing a product. |

Ken, I understand - I was laughing because I have had those same calls and always like to verify. Then again, I probably said the same thing you did, about architects some times! ;) |

Speaking of DensElement - there is lengthy posting on LinkedIn regarding testing of DensElement and its associated joint treatment: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6636600364764409857/ Phil Kabza FCSI CCS AIA SpecGuy Specifications Consultants www.SpecGuy.com phil@specguy.com |

So, my take on this is that changing the spec to DensDeck Prime with Eonic Technology will make the roof board spec proprietary and will eliminate any other boards from meeting the spec? I'm hesitant to change my spec for this reason, unless my client wants the product sole-sourced From their literature: In keeping with the tradition of market-driven innovation DensDeck® Prime Roof Board includes EONIC™ Technology, a patent-protected enhancement that has doubled its resistance to moisture, making it the only roof board with manufacturing specifications that include 5% total water absorption resistance by weight and 1-gram surface water absorption performance on both sides of the board. |
