Has anyone specified these foam products such as Wedi Board, Schluter Kerdi-Board, Laticrete Hydro Ban Board, or NobleBoard?

I've used Kerdi-Board, really like it, and all the associated specialty products & accessories that come with it. Used it on several large gang showers for an athletic club

My concern is whether the board is tough enough to resist abuse. I can see the board being used in residential construction, but I'm concerned about its suitability for school projects.

Look in the TCNA Handbook for an applicable installation method using that type of tile baking board.
The installation method will list applicable exposure classifications.
Near the front of the handbook is an explanation for each exposure classification.

To answer your initial question, no, I never specify foam core tile backer boards.

Have any of them been tested to impact testing similar to abuse resistant drywall?
