It seems like lately our teams are looking to remove and re-install components in new locations. Doors are the most common, but recently casework and more complicated bits have started to crop up.
Since the process isn't addressed in the typical Section, should I be developing Sections to address the peculiarities of the removal/ reinstallation process?

A critical part is the who/where/how of where they will be safely put until needed.

Yes! You can cut out a lot language in Part 1 and Part 2 and just expand on Part 3.

MasterSpec 024119 SELECTIVE DEMOLITION gives a decent framework which you can then expand upon as needed for specific items.

Big issue is making sure to use the same terms on Drawings as in specs.
Remove and reinstall needs to be clarified vs. remove and relocate. Don't forget to identify which items get cleaned or refurbished.
Remove and store until reinstalled or relocated needs to be defined vs. remove, salvage, and store for future use (presumably for use by Owner, which also needs to be clear).

We were just talking about this, especially how to prepare a section for deconstruction vs demolition. I'm in favor of requiring the contractor to submit a plan, including how to label and where to store things.
And I prefer to leave the details about exactly "what" on the Drawings. I think adding a list of what is to be deconstructed, demolished, salvaged, and stored in the specifications is more confusing.
Speaking of deconstruction, did you all see Stadium 974 at the men's world cup in Quatar? https://www.archdaily.com/993811/workers-begin-dismantling-qatars-stadium-974-the-first-temporary-world-cup-stadium

We had teams using "demolish" "remove" "salvage" and "remove and re-install" interchangeably - often in the same set of demolition notes. We developed a set of definitions that are now on every demolition sheet so at least now we're all singing off the same sheet.
I saw that MF defines a number of Sections for salvaging components in 02 4200. My concern is that removing casework, for example, for re-installation is more of casework scope than demolition scope and it seems better results will come from having casework mechanics doing the Work than demo crews.
Thanks for the link to the WC stadium - it will be either a great step in sustainability or a massive bit of greenwashing.

Standard definitions of terms is key. Totally agree.

That said, this would be a good opportunity to remind people that where something is located in the Project Manual doesn't force who does the work or how the work scope is split.

A few procedural upgrades I suggest for 02-Demolition:
General performance requirements.
Provisions for unforeseen conditions, e.g. unit prices/allowances.
Specialty subcontractors, if needed.
Pre-demolition walk-through and conference (similar to a pre-install conf.).
Demolition plan submittal, inventory of salvaged items.
Stockpiling, storage, treatments.
Construction waste management coordination.

We also used very specific definitions in the Selective Demolition section. For items that were called for reinstallation, we also had language in the SD section about removing, identifying, cleaning, restoring, packing, and storage.

Copied from MasterSpec Section 024119 - Selective Demolition (full length)

A. Remove: Detach items from existing construction and dispose of them off-site unless indicated to be salvaged or reinstalled.

B. Remove and Salvage: Detach items from existing construction, in a manner to prevent damage, and [deliver to Owner ready for reuse] [store].

C. Remove and Reinstall: Detach items from existing construction, in a manner to prevent damage, prepare for reuse, and reinstall where indicated.

D. Existing to Remain: Leave existing items that are not to be removed and that are not otherwise indicated to be salvaged or reinstalled.
Coordinate definition of "dismantle" with Section 013516 "Alteration Project Procedures" if that Section is also required for Project.

E. Dismantle: To remove by disassembling or detaching an item from a surface, using gentle methods and equipment to prevent damage to the item and surfaces; disposing of items unless indicated to be salvaged or reinstalled.
