Does anyone have a good resource for details showing mechanically fastened stone veneer over continuous insulation? Is an air space required? Are there any code issues. I can send someone a detail that i am concerned about if anyone has any input or resources. |

I would suggest revising the mechanically fastened method to a full mortar bed application for over CI. You can use z-girts for lath attachment and then code compliant Mortar. |

It depends on whether you are trying for an anchored stone veneer or an adhered stone veneer. It sounds like you are looking for an anchored stone solution. While not the best, there are some details on the Natural Stone Institute's website: https://pubs.naturalstoneinstitute.org/pub/2DE67591-E0D4-196E-0566-F134CCA32B13. I like the Gridworks system as Wayne mentioned as it has seemed to work out many of the sticky issues with insulation and thermal bridging. I could look over a detail if you wanted me to. Brian, Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have projects using Gridworx for 30 mm stone cladding in Canada and the USA. In Toronto, a CDN domestic version of Gridworx used their proprietary system with 10-12 mm large format porcelain tiles for a Nordstrom's store. It is not rocket surgery. Recent events on an HI project reveal large demand but short supply for mineral wool board ci, mineral wool blanket insulation. Not certain if it is a labor shortage at manufacturer, shipping shortage, mineral shortage, etc. Long lead times are in play requiring a change in material via substitution. |
