It is too bad that Deltek discontinued MasterSpec Small Project specifications. Occasionally I write specifications for a really small project. I only do this as a favor to my regular clients because these projects end up being just as much work as a bigger project but without the fee. David G. Sometimes I have a very small quantity of a product that does not necessitate a full specification. For example I did a school remodel project where the only concrete was a small equipment base outside the building. It would have been silly to have three full concrete sections (formwork, rebar, CIP) for such a small pad. David G. Axt, CCS, CSI, SCIP Specifications Consultant Axt Consulting LLC |

I couldn't agree more-I found it to be a very useful product, and I never understood why it was discontinued. At the time I was in a firm doing a lot of health care work, and the Small Project spec master was perfect for all those little pieces of work some of our clients needed. It was a great way to take care of these little projects. I liked the capability of producing either a Project Manual or a sheet spec. |

Washington State law requires all projects over $99K to be publicly bid. Projects over $35k but under $99K can be solicit bids from three contractors. Projects under $35k can be negotiated. Many of the school districts I work with have a small projects division where minor work is provided by a selected contractor and negotiated bid. This type of work would include repainting, ceiling tile replacement, rekeying doors, moving partitions, replace carpeting, etc. These projects are simple fast projects that require very little in regards to a specification. I use MasterSpec Small Project specifications for these type of projects. David G. Axt, CCS, CSI, SCIP Specifications Consultant Axt Consulting LLC |
