What is the right Section Number and Title for fixed "Frameless Glass Partitions"? CR Laurence uses "SECTION 10 23 10 - GLAZED INTERIOR WALL AND DOOR ASSEMBLIES" This seems wrong, as "10 23 10" is not found in MasterFormat, nor is "10 23 ##". What ought I to use? |

I've used 08 41 26 All-Glass Entrances and Storefronts Yes, I know that could be considered a stretch, but think of the partitions as interior storefront. And 102310 isn't wrong. Users can make up their own numbers and titles, consistent with general MF organization. And in any case, the MasterFormat Police aren't going to make a nighttime raid on your office. |

Matthew: A follow-up. If the partitions are custom, I'd use 084126. But if they're a manufactured system, I'd use 102310. |

Thank you, Dave! I have certainly made-up numbers in the past, but, as I understand it, MasterFormat says user-defined Level 3 numbers should be 13, 16, 19, 23, etc. That's why I said "10 23 10" was "wrong". |

Interesting. FWIW, Speclink has a Section 102310 - Glazed Interior Wall and Door Assemblies. But as you both mentioned, that isn't in the MasterFormat list. |

In the Masterformat Introduction and Applications Guide, they state: “In most Divisions, title and number assignments at Levels 3 and 4 have been allocated in spaced groups that generally follow this pattern: 13, 16, 19, then 23, 26, 29, and so on. This was done to provide adequate spacing between titles and numbers. The choice of these specific numbers has no meaning beyond spacing.…A user does not need to follow the above conventions and is free to use any appropriate number in the assignment of new numbers for new titles” [within certain parameters]. I was on the MasterFormat Maintenance Task Team for 10 years. I see the 13, 16, 19, etc pattern as more for the Task Team’s assignment of new numbers for subsequent editions of MasterFormat, than as a requirement for the individual specifier’s assignment of a one-off number for a specific project. |

I have the MasterFormat book right here, but I missed "A user does not need to follow the above conventions and is free to use any appropriate number in the assignment of new numbers for new titles.” Thank you. |

I have the MasterFormat 2020 edition on my laptop. It's on page 5. |
