Hi all, I am currently reading SDI standards trying to find this but figured I would ask here too to tap into collective wisdom. We have a project where knockdown frames were allowed. We have a crappy installation in that the joints at the top corners have big gaps, you can even see the tabs. (I was hoping to post a photo from the PM but am not able to because my computer keeps telling me the site is unsafe so won't let me upload.) Where can I find information on a tolerance for that joint that will hopefully help us out so we can get a better appearance. Tracy L. Van Niel, FCSI, CCS |

Hi Tracy, SDI A250.11 Recommended Erection Instructions for Steel Frames includes tolerances for frame plumb and square. The tolerance is set at 1/16 inch for the height of the frame jamb (plumb) and 1/16 inch for the width of the frame head (square). SDI A250.8 Specifications for Standard Steel Doors and Frames sets clearances between the door and frame of 1/8 inch with maximum tolerance of 1/32 inch. Since the head joints are open the clearances from the door to the frame probably exceed what is allowable. |
