We have several projects that are using the old MasterFormat 95 (5-digit Section numbers). Generally, this has not been a problem since most of the projects it did in my early years at Jordan Consultants were done in that format. HOWEVER, I need a 5-digit Section number for Kilns. I have a section that I have developed, but it has a 6-digit number. Would be somewhere in Division 11. Would be willing to share my section in exchange for a number. J. Peter Jordan, FCSI, AIA, CCS, LEED AP, SCIP

Dennis C. Elrod asked me to forward to you "I just looked at my MF95 to MF04 Conversion Chart dated 10/04/2010 and there is no Section for Kilns in Divisions 11 - 13. Please relay this on to Peter." I will say just make up a number for specialty items like this. Colin Colin Gilboy Publisher, 4specs.com

"I would like a narrowscope number." You have 99 digits to play with - create your own. e.g., 11510 "Kilns" Ron Geren, FCSI Distinguished Member, AIA, CCS, CCCA, CSC, SCIP

MasterFormat 2020 list Kilns as 11 95 13. It seems logical, or at least expedient, to replace "00" with "13" such: 11513. |

Sometimes, I wish we could just take MF95 and bury it in an unmarked grave. Not like there was anything wrong with it, but jeez! It's been twenty years! (I did succeed in getting one client to move to currant MasterFormat.) Yes, I know this doesn't add to the conversation. But I feel your pain. |

After SCIP last week, I was inspired to try AI. It's good to know technology has the definitive answer: Chat GPT: In MasterFormat 1995, kilns fall under Division 11 – Equipment. The specific five-digit number for kilns is 11 13 00 – Kilns. This section includes industrial and commercial kilns used for firing ceramics, drying, or similar thermal processing. Perplexity: In the 1995 MasterFormat, kilns typically fall under Division 11, which covers equipment. The specific five-digit number for kilns is usually 11500. That number is dedicated to industrial and process equipment, which includes kilns. CoPilot: There isn't information on the five-digit MasterFormat 95 number for kilns in Division 11 in the given context. I regret to inform you that I do not have the specific five-digit MasterFormat 95 number for kilns in Division 11. I recommend consulting the MasterFormat 95 documentation or contacting the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), which oversees MasterFormat, for precise details. Claude: The five-digit MasterFormat 95 number for Kilns in Division 11 is 11513. |

AI is turning this into a heated discussion. |
