Has anyone written a spec to refurbish an elevator? This is beyond merely finishes, but includes updating and replacing operating components. I did various google searches and did find something for City of Mentor OH project. I know a lot is dependent on what the firm doing the work FINDS when they examine the elevator. But... has anyone done a spec for this? Words of Advice? Thanks! |

It was a few years ago, but the last time I was involved in this scope we had an elevator consultant involved who wrote the spec. It was way beyond my capacity. If the system has to integrate with security electronics or elevator dispatch systems it gets even more complicated and really needs an expert. |

I agree with John's post. Our condo is having our elevator system replaced after almost 35 years in service (two cars, hoisting machines, control systems, etc) and we hired an elevator consultant. I reviewed the documents but as John noted, the specifications for this requires a level of expertise beyond my knowledge and experience. |

I recommend Lerch Bates as a consultant for this type of work. |

We were assisting a major healthcare provider with upgrading elevators in large quantities across their campuses. An elevator consultant is absolutely critical in preparing elevator modernization specifications. You need knowledge and understanding of the existing elevators and the various previous modernizations that may have been done. They will have the experience to know that if "X" must be replaced, you should also replace "Y", even if there is some life left in Y because the labor time needed to get access to X also gets you access to Y, and that sort of cost efficient logic. |
