We specified trimless slot diffusers in a board room ceiling. The finisher mudded them in with mesh tape. And they have cracked all the way around. I can see the outline of the frame. Any suggestions?

My understanding from our USG rep is that paper tape is stronger than mesh tape. However, assuming the root cause of the cracking is vibration caused by air movement, a better solution might be to install mudded-in flush reveal trim around the diffuser perimeter, such as by Pittcon, Gordon, or Fry Reglet.

You may not want to see the reveal, but I'd rather see a sharp-edged reveal than cracks.

We had the same problem with trimless access doors, finally gave up and use frames. As Dave said about the reveal, a frame looks better than a crack.
