The tile installer did not install the epoxy grout to the top of the quarry tile in the kitchen. He left about a 1/16 of an inch of the tile exposed. I am concerned that the edges of the quarry tile will chip off. I looked through the TCA manual and ANSI and did not find any information about installing the mortar to the top of the tile.

Does anyone know where I can find information on tile setting and grout installation?

MasterSpecs refers to the "ANSI A108 Series" of provisions for installation of tile. May be something there.

I would think the health department would have a coniption fit over this. The recess creates a wonderful place for nasty things to grow and would be very hard to clean.

ANSI A108.6-2005, Para. 3.0.7 - "...contoured depression no deeper than 3/64 in. for 1/4 in. wide joint, and 1/16 in. for 3/8 in. wide joint."
