To reduce costs we are specifying rubber floor base in lieu of turning up resinous flooring at tenant bathroom walls for a commercial project in Trinidad. Eons ago, my father was a flooring installer and he used to apply a bead of sealant at the bottom of the wall base to ensure a watertight seal, does anyone specify this? |

I have seen that as a plan review comment for California hospitals reviewed by the state agency that issues hospital permits, OSHPD. |

Yes we do. 1. Where coved base is installed against hard surface or resilient flooring, install a continuous bead of sealant under the toe of the base; ensure complete contact to exclude moisture between the floor and the base. Remove squeezeout with xylol, mineral spirits, or other solvent as recommended by the sealant manufacturer. |
