Does anyone have an opinion as to what types/sizes/features are most appropriate for HS and JHS art classrooms, and why? I searched on 4Specs.com and found two closed threads. Over a decade ago, Don Harris posted, "Dave, Try Col-Met Spray Booths, Inc. http://www.colmetsb.com/ We used them as basis of design for a university art studio. On another thread, someone mentioned a Paasche Air Brush booth had been used in a school art classroom. However, neither says what type or size of booth, and there are so many different ones available. Ducted? Ductless?? Does it need to be ETL listed? Any other spray booth tips? Thanks. |

No responses yet, but I did a little searching, so FWIW, I'll post what I found. Until I know more about what the Owner wants (or needs), this is probably enough at this point, except for the issue of ducted vs. ductless, which I would think has to do with whether what is sprayed is flammable, or high enough in VOC that ducted exhaust is necessary. There are many kinds of spray booths, even in the smaller sizes--enclosed and open front, bench, shelf, walk-in, etc. Besides air brush equipment, Paasche sells hobby and smaller industrial spray booths that have been specified art class room applications: http://www.paascheairbrush.com http://www.paascheairbrush.com/products/spray-booths/hobby-spray-booths http://www.paascheairbrush.com/products/spray-booths/industrial-spray-booths/bench-booths http://www.paascheairbrush.com/products/spray-booths/industrial-spray-booths/shelf-booths/fabsf http://www.paascheairbrush.com/products/spray-booths/industrial-spray-booths/walk-in-booths/fabf Colmet (Rockwall, TX) has a concise guide to spray booth selection criteria: http://www.colmetsb.com/Literature/download/Col-Met%20Buyers%20Guide.pdf. Greg, at Colmet, suggests an open front “industrial bench booth” like one of the Paasche models above, Model IBB-04-07-02, in the $2000 range -- 4’ wide x 7’ high x 24” deep, wider than the 30” Marathon, but not as deep, and not portable. http://www.colmetsb.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/IBB_OpenFrontBenchBooths_productshseet_0110.pdf. Other sources include http://www.americanpaintbooth.com, http://www.paint-booths.com, and many others. I have not identified a dominant industry leader. Booths for flammable or combustible materials must comply with NFPA-33. ETL is a testing agency (like UL) that lists and labels booths for compliance, which adds to the cost; see http://www.paint-booths.com/etl/ for a good explanation. |
