Designer wants HM door frames the "look like aluminum". He claims he saw a product somewhere. Anybody have any idea what he is talking about? Russ Hinkle |

He wants the crisp corners that you get from aluminum (extruded) rather than the eased edge you get from steel (broken). You are not going to get that from standard hollow metal. Why not just use aluminum? George A. Everding AIA CSI CCS CCCA Allegion PLC (formerly Ingersoll Rand) St. Louis, MO |

The client might have seen the Timely frames with snap on trim that have sharp corners. David Lorenzini, FCSI, CCS Architectural Resources Co. |

That is my recommendation. Just use aluminum. I also remembered that the Timely rep was in for a lunch and learn recently and I think that is what he is remembering. Russ Hinkle |

Timely is not an SDI member manufacturer - not that it matters to your designer, but it probably does matter to you as a specifier in how you write your HM section. The other thing that occurs to me is maybe this is a rated opening. As I am sure you know but perhaps your designer doesn't, there are now fire-rated aluminum framing systems available. George A.
