I am averse to specifying sound batts in Division 07 - especially if I don't have any other insulation. I am inclined to specify them in 09 8116 - Acoustic Blanket Insulation. Am I thinking right? |

If their only location is in metal stud-framed gypsum board partitions, I specify acoustic batt/blanket insulation in 092900 Gypsum Board. I used 098116 only if the insulation is used in wood stud-framed partitions. I have used 098100 Acoustic Insulation mostly for theater or broadcasting projects, where there has been multiple types of acoustic insulation. |

Often I'll include the sound batts in 09 21 16 - Gypsum Wall Assemblies. |

I typically use 09 8116 because sound batts are frequently used in multiple applications. This avoids having redundant provisions in several sections (shaftwall, gyp board, etc). |

Thanks, everyone, for your perspective on this. |
