Several months ago Ingersoll Rand made the decision to spin off its commercial and residential security business sectors as a new stand-alone, publicly traded company. On December 1, Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies became Allegion PLC.

Beyond the new name and new logo, the only change you will notice is the email addresses for our hardware consultants and representatives. The new format is firstname.lastname@allegion.com

The brands we represent (notably Schlage, Von Duprin, LCN, Ives, Glynn Johnson, and Falcon), the way we do business, and the people you work with will all remain the same.

Colin has a posting in the Changes section of 4specs, and all the I-R links here have been changed to Allegion.

If you have any questions about or concerns with this transition please contact the Ingersoll Rand (now Allegion) consultant or representative you are used to working with, or feel free to contact me directly.

George, Do you know if they are now fully independent of other Ingersoll Rand products? I still think of IR as a compressor manufacturer.

I-R industrial tools, Trane, Club Car, etc. all remain with Ingersoll Rand. Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies (the commercial hardware) and Schlage Residential (residential locksets) were spun off and are now Allegion.

So yes, we (Allegion) are, as of December 1, officially and completely independent from them (I-R). As I understand the complexity of it, the spin off has to be done this way.

Having said that, there will be some lag and some overlap in some areas for a while. Like my I-R email address will be in effect a few months as well as the new one, and our office is still in a Trane facility until construction at our new one is finished. At some point soon all of the loose end overlap gets resolved, and all that’s left of I-R in our new company is the memories….

It’s been an interesting process, and all in all, I feel very positive about our future.

George:

Thanks for the clarification about Allegion. Currently, I am working on projects for facilities of Allergan, who make pharmaceutical stuff like Botox. My first response to the new name, Allegion, was that it had something to do with allergy medications.

I also used to think that CCPR was an emergency medical program of the former Soviet Union and that CCCA was a joint venture between CSI and the Auto Club. And that those who have passed the Construction Documents Technology exam are called "CaDeTs".

I kept thinking of Sacha Baron Cohen and his "Ali G" when we first heard the new name. I'd hate to be the people charged with inventing a new name for a company - it's got to be difficult to navigate the through the unintended similarities.

I do like calling CDTs CaDeTs.
