has anyone every prepared a spec for a custom gas fire pit (in a restaurant) that puts the responsibility for testing and certifying the final assembly the contractor? I don't know much about gas fireplaces and am not sure how to approach this and create a specification. |

You will need a hood to ventilate the thing so you don't gas everyone and the hood may be located relatively close to the fire pit itself. I am sure that the AHJs will have a lot of input over how this gets done. If you go to this http://www.snoopyspier.com/photos/ you can see a photo of something somewhat similar at a restaurant near where I grew up (look at the 5th row, 3rd column). I realize it is a wood burning fire place and not really what you want (or maybe it is), but it shows what you may have to consider. |

Robin, it is possible that local codes will dictate to some extent the testing and certification of the installation. Perhaps CSA/AGA can offer some direction. I would also attempt a dialog with the project's mechanical engineer as he or she will certainly specify other gas-fired equipment. |
