Anyone know of a manufacturer of a funky ship's ladder, something with good design intention?

Did you mean "with good design"?

To me, something "with good design intention" means they fell short of the goal for good design.

Jerome, you may want to encourage the architect to make sure a ship's ladder is allowed by code for the location they're planning to use it. They're not always allowed.

Clarification - my client has asked for a spec for a 'nice looking ship's ladder'...anyone care to put that in specwriting terms?

btw Ron, congrats on the upcoming book, if I'm still writing specs when it comes out, I will definitely buy it...got to support my fellow specifiers...hell I bought Ralph's book, even read it!

Jerome - Thanks, but it's not a done deal yet. They are reviewing the book to see if it has potential. Should know within about a month.

Thanks Jerome for that "ringing" endorsement. Sounds like you did my book as a last resort, but then I know you enjoyed it and benefited from it.

I wondered why my royalty check was so big!

Hey, I'm still finding all the areas where I have them. I thought I'd found them all--I guess I missed one. Thanks.

Ralphie baby, you have to understand I don't get an opportunity to ever read a book, taking precious time to read any book, even yours is a significant derivation in my daily routine. In fact I have started reading my first book since yours came out - "Crazy - A Father's Search Through America's Mental Health Madness", it is not a novel nor about architecture, but unless you have one very close to you having to deal with mental health on a daily basis, you would not understand. I hope the ending is not a cliff hanger, I've had enough of those.

So for now instead of doing my nightly crossword puzzle before bed, I will be reading.

Jerome, sweetie, I revel in the fact that I and my book got you back to reading. I bet you get more out of reading than you do in doing dead-end crossword puzzles [which are fine for short term amusement]

Wish you well in your daily trial.

Bill Clinton, Norman Mailer, John Stewart, Beverly Sills, even Kitty Carlisle are crossword doers, you should be lucky if any of these Americans read the works of Ralph Liebing...be careful there are more of us than there are of you....what you never heard of an app? crosswords are far from dead end, of course if your still buying them at the grocery store with your copy of Globe...

Not sure what "nice looking ships ladder" means but have you considered an alternating tread stair similar to the ones Lapeyre Stairs makes.
As mentioned previously code compliance for the installation may be an issue.
