I've been told by a manufacturer's rep that MR Board no longer exists in the industry. Isn't this one of those terms that's going to be around until the cows come home. Green Board did go away, but I am still hearing of MR Board being used on a project, and no matter how many times I correct an architect or contractor it is a term that won't go away.

I've been told by both our National Gypsum and USG representatives that moisture resistant (MR) board is no longer being manufactured. There may still be some kicking around in warehouses and distribution centers. The industry wants us to move to glass fiber mat board or cement board (for tile).

Per ASTM C 1396, it is now called water-resistant gypsum board, even though some manufacturers may call it moisture-resistant. Manufacturers are also testing their water-resistant board for mold resistance, so you may hear the term "mold and moisture resistant gypsum board."
