Right now, I'm involved on a project that originally had spec'd multiple sets of Stanley Dura Glide 3000 doors and a set of Stanley Magic Force doors. Now, I'm being presented with 2 options as possible substitutes. They are: *Record-USA 5100 series sliding doors and the 6100 series ADA operator. *Besam SL500 series sliding doors and the SW200i operator set to ADA. If anyone has experience with these and can provide the pros/cons with any of these products, that is very much appreciated. Thanks. |

Without making a comparison of the models you reference, I often specify Besam, which is a part of ASSA ABLOY, for power operated sliding doors. I have never worked with Record-USA. |

I don't spec Stanley for automatic entrances due to a couple of customer service and performance issues we had during construction a few years back but I spec both the record-USA and Besam products, so those models would be the equivalents IMHO. My Assa Abloy rep agrees with these choices. Ride it like you stole it!!! |

More evidence of the importance of local reps. What is acceptable in one market often is rejected in another. |

Colin, another instance when I'd like to have a "Like" button available to show my agreement with one of Sheldon's statements. |

Just so you know. The company that wrote this forum software is out of business and no expectations of any updates. Some of you may recall I tried to change software 2-3 years ago, and learned the optional email notification was an essential part of this forum. I keep my eye out for replacement software and none offer this combination of a forum with a listserv type notification system. When you dig into discussions there are others that want additional and newer features and none of the players offer it. It is amusing to read a forum of a new software such as Xenforo (from memory) and see the requests for emails and no response. Colin Gilboy Publisher, 4specs.com 435.654.5775 - Utah 800.369.8008 |

Colin; Good luck with the software search. Form my limited exposure I doubt that the "perfect" software exists. |

An opportunity if I ever saw one...isn't there someone out there who could write the perfect forum software? |

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, Colin gets what you need! I've been running into a number of custom software developers here in Charlotte. I'll start collecting names and contacts to send you, Colin. Thanks again for giving us this forum. It's one of the only things that help me maintain what small amount of sanity I still have. |

Ken, have you been tested lately for that sanity? (grin) But I agree - this forum is far and away the best thing, aside from the participants who make it wonderful, it's the easiest one to use. |

They did a CT scan of my head but didn't find anything. No wonder I feel light-headed. |

Lynn, I laughed out loud on that one and woke up the engineer in the next cubicle. He wanted to thank you since it's now time for him to go home. |

Must be close to the end of the week. I have an attorney friend who underwent some heart surgery recently - his non-lawyer friends were stunned to learn that he actually had a heart. His reply was that he didn't, so they had to give him one so they could work on it! |

Re: congressional deadlock Maybe if we put brains in Democrats and hearts in Republicans, common interests could be recognized and reasonable governance might occur. Nah-h-h. It's much more fun as-is. It sells more blood pressure-regulating medications too. |

Send them to the wizard...of Oz, that is. And maybe he'll give both a little courage, too. Otherwise, like Dorothy, let's tell him to send them all back home. Ron Geren, AIA, CSI, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |

So far, this sounds good. Any other opinions about using Besam or Record-USA instead of Stanley? Things such as product reliability, maintenance, etc. Thanks again. |
