The best suggestion I have been able to obtain is a magnetic lock with a request to exit panic type bar on the egress side. However, no one can suggest any manufactures that recommended this type of hardware for an exterior application. Thanks. The project I specified this kit on didn't have card access on the gate, though. I normally used a Von Duprin device with stainless steel components. No special protection is required for the exit/panic device, other than providing weep holes on the bottom of the device to allow water to drain. I would suggest contacting your local hardware consultant. In the past, both Von Duprin (Ingersol Rand) and Sargent (Assa Abloy) have allowed and warranted their rim mounted exit devices for exterior use. Von Duprin's installation guide advises the field installer to drill two small 1/8" drainage holes in the bottom of the bar device. I don't recall if Sargent says anything similar. The biggest issue we have found with exit gates, particularly around pools and so forth (taller gates) is that it is almost impossible to meet the ADA swing weights. Too hard/heavy to push open and too much closing force/momentum on return. Usually have to consider powered operators where required as an accessible exit. My friendly neighbour doorknob guy from Assa Abloy was more than happy to give me products to spec for this exterior application. All I had to do was sketch up the details for the intern architect to add to the typical gate details for hardware concealment and routing of the conduits. Ride it like you stole it!!!
