We have been receiving conflicting information about using Core-Fill 500 foam insulation to increase the fire rating of 2-hr CMU to 4-hr.

What are your experience and comments.

Thank you.

To my knowledge it has not been tested for that; only the loose fill items listed in the footnote to IBC Table 721.1(2)(i.e. vermiculite, perlite, expanded clay, lightweight aggregate, sand, or slag) will allow a 4-hour rating.

Otherwise, it will need to be a tested assembly.

The claim is absolutely false. An investigation of the claim is underway by the Office of the Attorney General in Florida. One E119 test of an 8" test panel showing 4-hour results was run with a proprietary formulation of Core-Fill 500 made with a "special ingredient" not found in regular Core-Fill 500. The "special ingredient" increased the water holding capacity of the foam; thus, enabling steam to cool the core of the test panel throughout the test.
