We have received a shop drawing submittal where the waterproofing and setting materials are by one mfg. and the grout is my another. Per our specs, it would actually be acceptable to have the waterproofing by one manuf. and the setting and the grout by another. I would tend to agree with the std. spec language re: mfg. source. Would think that most tile setting materials could go on someone elses waterproofing. Although it should be noted if not indicated that compatability should be confirmed. Does anyone know how critical it is that the setting products and grout are by the same manufacturer. Spec language re: sources: A. Source Limitations for Setting and Grouting Materials: Obtain ingredients of a uniform quality for each mortar, adhesive, and grout component from one manufacturer and each aggregate from one source or producer. B. Source Limitations for Other Products: Obtain each of the following products specified in this Section from a single manufacturer for each product: 1. Stone thresholds. 2. Waterproof membrane. 3. Crack isolation membrane. 4. Joint sealants. 5. Cementitious backer units. 6. Metal edge strips. |

Dale, We specify components of “systems” with all the products, except the tile and thresholds, made or distributed by a single manufacturer. Custom Building Products, Mapei and Laticrete all have systems and offer the owner a 15-year warranty on their “System”. We could not ask for the same warranty if the components (leveling compound, waterproofing/crack isolation membrane, mortar and grout) were made by different manufacturers. |
