My client is having some issues on an adjacent project that are raising some questions about non-loadbearing studs we have specified and indicated on the drawings. I have deflection criteria in the performance article and a minimum thickness (20 gage) for non-bearing studs. Stud size and configuration is given on the drawings. Not sure what else I can add to ease my client's mind and waylay perceived extras. Suggestions?

You should check to see that you haven't built in a conflict. I usually specify that sizes and configurations on Drawings are minimums. That doesn't help if an interior drywall bids on this stuff without really understanding the delegated design requirements. On one project, the Owner did not accept performance criteria as a valid specification. In my experience, some structural engineer would rather design this stuff while others insist on delegated design.

Studs are no longer specified by gage, but by thickness in mils, inches, or even mm. And 20 gage is particularly difficult because there were two thicknesses for 20 gage!

We've put a chart in our section that clearly states the criteria. I'll send you a copy.
