I have a project that I need to repaint the existing exterior steel ships ladders and other steel items. SpecLink doesn't appear to have a section that covers surface perpetration for existing conditions. I would assume this would go in division 099000. Is there any standards I could borrow from so I can cover all the bases?

Jeff,

Go the MPI website at www.paintinfo.com. There you will find specifications for repainting. If you cannot find, e-mail me at wayne.yancey@callison.com

Jeff - you may also want to check The Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC). They have the standards for the different levels of preparation.
Also, depending on which paint manufacturer you are proposing to use, they have specific recommendations on the prep for the products to be specified.
