What's the difference, esp in regard to envelope protection products, i.e., roofing, waterproofing, etc.? |

See CSI Project Delivery Practice Guide, 11.3.18 Warranties (pp 300-302) for an extended discussion of warranty and guaranty. |

From ARCOM MasterSpec Evalustion Sheet: Warranty versus Guarantee: There is a distinct difference between a warranty and a guarantee. A warranty is only an assurance that something will be as promised. A guarantee, however, is a contract in which one party "guarantees" the performance of another party to a third party. For example, if a manufacturer assures an owner that an installer will install a product correctly, or that the manufacturer will if the Installer does not, then the manufacturer is "guaranteeing" the performance of the Installer to the Owner. The two terms are often used casually as if they are interchangeable, which occasionally leads to the need for legal interpretation. |
