can anyone explain why MasterFormat, MasterSpec, and 4specs all spell accordion 'accordian' for Div 10 spec section "Accordian Folding Partitions?"

is this an alternate spelling? something specific to doors? i cannot find this spelling anywhere else...

That's only in the file name. In the title and in the body, it's "accordion" - at least in my copy.

Anon,

Spelling is irrelavent as long as the spelling is consistently one way throughout.

Same could be asked of gage or gauge.

Either way the intent is clear by the context of the subject matter.

I don't think anyone will bid a belly organ for the folding partitions.

Or, you could rename the section name to BELLY ORGAN FOLDING PARTITIONS.

Google "accordian" (spelled thus); it will turn up a definition I hadn't yet heard: "what happens to your honda accord when you run into a brick wall and then are rear ended by another vehicle."

Sorry; don't click on the Urban Definitions link, just read the definition on the Google screen. (I clicked on it after posting this; apologies...)

Lynn is right. Section 102233 in MasterSpec currently spells it "accordion" and has since at least 2008. But curiously, our Table of Contents incorrectly spells it "accordian." I'll make sure this is corrected for our next release.

I'm ARCOM's Editorial Director, so if you ever notice anything like this in the future, feel free to email me at eanest at arcomnet dot com.

If you're a musician and while driving late at night you see a banjo in one lane and an accordion in the other, which do you run over?

The accordion--always business before pleasure.

[Actually, I own 3 banjos myself but no accordions!]

Maybe it would be more correct technically to use the term "pantograph" instead of "accordian"/"accordion".
