Specifiers, see the summer issue of CURT's "The Voice" magazine--particulary page 41. http://flip.matrixgroupinc.net/curt/2012/summer/index.html Ron Geren, AIA, CSI, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |

That is a great article, Ron. It is clear and concise. I have only one comment. Not only does attaining the CCS require prior experience and passing a rigorous exam there is, as you know, a continuing education requirement as well. I am in awe of your extensive contributions to our profession of which this article is a good example. Thank you. |

James: Thanks for the comments. I've been asked by CURT to present this topic at their National Conference in Orlando this November. I have accepted and will put together a presentation. If interested, I'll make the presentation available (to those CCSs who give me their email addresses) prior to the event for comment and critique--I'd rather go into this with a unified specifier position rather than just my own point of view. Very nice article. Thank you! People do think it's mostly about the word processing. Not just owners - many architects, too. (Even I thought that before I started writing specs myself.) |

John and Wade: Thanks--you're on the list! Jerome: No easy button (I wish). I like writing, and when you feel strongly about something, the words come out easily--most of the time. Ron Geren, AIA, CSI, CCS, CCCA, SCIP www.specsandcodes.com |

Ron, I too, admire you for all your contributions! I would just have one suggestion -- that is to structure your upcoming presentation to include the engineering community and other industries. For instance, I have never once used AIA A201 -- except in studying for the CDT & CCS! We design for infrastructure & most of our clients have written their own GCs. Looking at the member list on CURT I am seeing a lot of owners that will fall into this category. Many of them may not even use CSI standards, unless perhaps they hire an architect for a building design. -- I'll be happy to help/comment more if you would like: kittiz@alumni.usc.edu Karen L.
