Request just in from a client for a spec for MONITORING FOR VIBRATION AND SETTLEMENT OF ADJACENT BUILDINGS. I cannot provide such a spec section from our database. Does anyone have such a section to forward?

wayne.yancey@callison.com

Thanks,

There needs to be a subject matter expert for each specification section. You need to find the subject matter expert for this issue and have him prepare the specification.

I would look to the geotechnical engineer and/or a structural engineer. The geotechnical engineer can speak to how much movement is reasonable given the construction methods. A structural engineer can offer inshights into significance of the movement on the existing building.

Part of the problem is the project structural engineer likely did not assume that he would have to evaluate the existing building.

This effort should also include a survey of the adjacent building before construction as well as coordination with excavation and foundation specification sections.
