I added a privacy statement to the headers in the forum. This may resolve the problem where Internet Explorer is not retaining cookies with the log in information. I also recommend you - if your computer allows - set a different security level for this forum. It appears that Internet Explorer 8 has a policy that "Restricts first-party cookies that save information that can be used to contact you without your implicit consent." The forum software registration and log in information has your name, company, email, etc. and to enable automatic logins 4specs (a first party in this case) must set a cookie that can be linked back to you. I stopped all logging of cookies in our server logs to eliminate any questions on identity when we set up the Contact Us icon - where you can save the information for another use - in a first-party cookie. My suggestion is to set a less restrictive policy for this forum in this way: 1. From the top navigation bar in Internet Explorer, select Tools, then the privacy tab. 2. My computers are set to Medium which I believe is the default. Click on the "Sites" button. 3. Add this site to the top box 4specs.com Then select the button allow. Let me know if this resolves your automatic log in problems. Colin Gilboy Publisher, 4specs.com 435.654.5775 - Utah 800.369.8008 |

I didn't understand all the fuss until the last couple of weeks, when my username and password would not automatically appear. I've been using Firefox for a long time, so the problem isn't specific to IE. I checked all of the Firefox settings I could find. Cookies are allowed (there are two for 4specs and three for discus), and my username and password are in the saved passwords tab. This isn't a huge problem, but it is strange. |

I, too, use Firefox here at work, but use IE at home. I had the problem once at work, but no longer do, and I've not had the problem at home. So it is, indeed, strange. |

When I double click on the user name box it appears. I have 2 here on the forum - Colin and Admin for different purposes and both appear. Select one and the password appears. This is a wide spread problem - here is a link I found last night: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/InternetExplorer/thread/7e96e953-826d-4cff-893b-87a927945a19 Colin Gilboy Publisher, 4specs.com 435.654.5775 - Utah 800.369.8008 |

Colin, I have a Mac and use Safari. The problem exists for me also. I have to login to the post every time when it used to be that I did not have to if I was logged into 4Specs. Are you sure that it is an Internet Explorer problem? I logged out and logged back in and it still exists. |
