I just received an email from the AIA President announcing a new agreement between AIA and Hanley Wood affecting their official publication (was AR and will become 'Architecture') and management of future conventions after this year. It will be interesting to see how things work with CSI and AIA sharing the same media partner. |

I assume you mean that CSI and AIA might start talking to each other and even try to coordinate events. |

Maybe even be a co-location of the AIA and CSI shows? I know a lot of manufacturers would be very happy if there was just one really big construction products expo. The two separate events have been hurting each other for as long as I can remember. |

yes, I would agree with that -- as to the value of the co-location. it always seems as though AIA and CSI are competing for the same dollars and they would do better to just cooperate |

I spoke to one of the people I know at Hanley Wood - they moved the CSI/Construct show to September in 2011 and plan to keep it there in future years to avoid the AIA conflict. In the fall they also need to avoid the USGBC show typically in November. Who knows what will happen in future years. A joint show would be interesting, but very large. I can see the nuts and bolts on the left for the specifiers, the middle as the general stuff for specifiers and architects and the right as design oriented for the designers. A joint AIA & CSI convention and show would be great! Hanley Wood will have to watch out for Jewish High Holidays and Sukkot if CSI Show stays in September. |

based on information presented at the Annual Meeting in Philly, there will be no "Joint" shows, at least in the near future. And, regarding the holiday conflicts, when has Hanley Wood "watched out" for anything like that in the past? Doug Frank FCSI, CCS, SCIP Affiliate FKP Architects, Inc. Houston, TX |

Architectural Record. The five-year agreement will take effect Jan. 1, 2011. Additionally, the agreement will integrate the AIA and its membership with Hanley Wood’s magazines, websites, events, the AIA Annual Convention, research and support for AIA chapters. AIA members will receive digital editions of Hanley Wood titles Residential Architect, EcoHome and Eco-Structure. “We are elated to, once again, partner with the AIA,” Hanley Wood CEO Frank Anton said in a statement. “Hanley Wood had its beginning as the first publishing partner for the AIA in 1976 and, working together, we now have opportunities to make the architectural profession more robust and relevant to the design and construction industry and the public.” PRINTED FROM: http://www.btobonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100513/MEDIABUSINESS/100519956/1078/newsletter011&template=printart Entire contents © 2010 Crain Communications, Inc. |

I don't expect to see a combined convention. I think Hanley Wood would lose potential profit by combining the two conventions unless they are losing money on the conventions and only operating them for charitable reasons. |
