Thanks - and Merry Christmas to you, too, Doug! Whatever holiday others are celebrating, may you be joyous in your celebration and may 2010 bring prosperity to all. |

Every holdiay, not matter its name, there is meaning of good wishes-- so to all enjoy your day and substitute it in here as you wish-- In the hustle of the work day-- there is peace? In the rushing of preparation- there is calm In the list that seems to never end- there is completion In the thought that things will not work out- they always seem to In our maligned world- there is rationale and direction In what seems wrong and mis-directed- there is still “that” star! In the scramble to do it all- there is accomplishment In the days that seem too short- there IS enough time In the drear, gloom, gray and worrisome days- there is still hope In all that seems wrong, materialistic, silly and affronting- there is a Silent Night In all that is done that, in your eyes, is NOT right- there is still Christmas, in your heart, in small things that happen, in the sparkling eyes of little ones, and deep in your mind where nothing-- nothing!!!- can reach it and take it away. In the all changes we have seen and know- Christmas is still Christmas! And to you and Yours, may that day be Merry this year and live throughout the next!! God bless you all- everyone! Be safe! Turn in a corner of a room and wish yourself Merry Christmas, smile, and shed a tear- it’s ALL OK! |

Thank you for your environmentally friendly holiday greetings, and I wish to return my warmest greetings as well. BUT before these environmentally friendly, holiday e-greetings get out of hand, I'd like to express my seasonal hope that e-greetings are not a replacement for "real" greetings. Although not updated yet for this year's financial situation, I expect that you can understand the warm sincerity of my holiday message below. Please be aware that paper is a commodity and pulp trees are planted and harvested, not cut from old-growth forests. If everyone opted for an e-greeting approach to holiday greeting "cards," the greeting-card industry would quickly disintegrate. After all, Hallmark is a Fortune 500 company. The economic devastation would spread to paper manufacturers (Weyerhauser is a Fortune 500 company), cake bakers (Pillsbury is a Fortune 500 company), toymakers (Toys-r-Us is a Fortune 500 company). The U.S. Postal service would need to lay off thousands of temporary workers (who can use the holiday income) in one fell swoop. The entire U.S. economy would collapse! In the event of a power blackout or an internet virus, nobody would get any holiday cards, and would have no idea about who loved them and who wished them ill. Before you know it, arguments and fights would be breaking out all over the world. People would be isolated, sullen, and most of all, would not have the hope that a holiday-card envelope might contain a Gift Card from Bed Bath and Beyond. It would be the death not just of Christmas, but of Chanukah (or however you wish to spell it), Quansa, and the world as we know it. Peace on Earth? Good will toward Men? ...down the toilet ! (Come to think of it, the financial crisis may have been worse because of e-greetings!) Nevertheless, please accept my love and best wishes for this season of good will. ;-) |

I'm pleased to say that I contribute to the economic fortunes of our country by sending, via our postal service, over 100 Christmas cards or Christmas newsletters to friends and family where I have their snail mail addresses. And furthermore, throughout the year, I mail paper cards to those same people with birthday and anniversary good wishes and greetings. While I appreciate electronic capabilities, nothing quite compares with a carefully chosen card, personalized for that individual...Hallmark loves me and the postal workers at my post office cater to my stamp requirements with a smile. No economy wrecker am I! |

And nothing can replace a handshake, a hug, or a kiss if we are lucky to be near enough to those we care about. |

It's that time of year everyone. . . just what you've anticipated. . . my little tidbit of literary excellence to commemorate our first snowfall of the season, here in the Washington, DC area. It was a light, overnight dusting. Those living in the Great White North should read no further, because this inspirational rhyme may provoke in them an inappropriate, perhaps violent, response. SNOWFLAKES I hate snowflakes. Yes siree! 'Cause when they melt, They pee on me. They pile up High as can be! Then start to melt And become slushy. They make you slide And slip real fast, Then down you fly, Right on your. . . bottom! |
