I'm in the market for a GPS with Europe and US maps. It seems everyone I know has a Garmin, and they love them. Any Tom Tom owners out there? Any recommendations on what to get, what to avoid? |

I will join the Garmin lovers. I have a Nuvi that came with both North American and European maps. It's much more reasonable to buy the package than to add the European maps later. I am generally very impressed with how accurate the maps and navigation are. |

I have a TomTom but don't have any European maps on it, so I can't speak to that. I'm happy with the TomTom, though... |

We bought a Magellan 1470 in June, before a vacation prior to the CSI Convention (does not come loaded with European maps, just US, Canada, and Puerto Rico).
We're very pleased with it. It has a large (4.7 inch diagonal) screen, and the graphics are clear and easy to read. Look for a unit that speaks to you, very useful especially if you are driving alone. There are units available that have voice recognition and can respond to voice commends, but they are more expensive. |

I have an LG touchscreen phone from Verizon with their VZ Navigator application. They also have an international version. I got it just before a trip to NYC and found it to be a godsend. I put it on the dash of my rental car next to the speedometer so I could glance at the map and hear the voice directions.
It is great to be able to have it with me whether I am in a car or on foot. It can also locate businesses from the Yellow Pages, which is nice when you need a cup of coffee. |

My teenage son can not find the local store on his own. We bought him a $100 (on sale) Garmin at x-mas. We used it this spring for a vacation and I was suprised how much I liked it. Easy to find a store when you suddenly need something (were is the nearest Walmart)or tourist destinations (take the tour of the Jack Daniels distillary in Tenn). I was suprised at how even the inexpensive version had a lot of information and was easy to use. Kids even named it her "Bella". Its hard not to take back to it!

I bought a car last May that has a built-in navigation system. It is amazing how accurate it is. It has even redirected me around traffic tie-ups. I don't know how it does that but, driving around the Houston area where traffic mishaps and emergency construction are a daily occurance, it sure comes in handy. |
