Let me start off with saying I never met Stephan Falk and had only a few conversations via the phone or email over the past year with him. I was shocked to see (on SCIP website) he passed away on October 4th of a heart attack. Hopefully those who knew Stephen better will add posts here in his memory. The following is downloaded from the SCIP website: SCIP lost a great board member and a great friend. Steve Falk was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and received a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction in the School of Architecture in 1957. He was an associate member of the Boston Chapter AIA and National AIA. He enjoyed teaching a course a t Columbia University for minority contractors on how to run a business and mentoring young Architects. He was an active CSI member and a few years ago he received his 50-year pin. In recent years, he had time to travel and play golf, but somehow responded to the call of serving on SCIP's board of directors in what ever capacity was needed. Steve Falk was the only candidate to step forward for the 2014-2016 board elections and volunteered to be our new treasurer. He was the perfect treasurer and membership chair, performing the task with dedication and expertise. He handled the position with dedication, expertise, and patience as he set up a new bank account, cajoled members to pay their dues, reported treasury balances each month, and participated in the process of setting up a non-profit incorporation for SCIP. SCIP has benefited greatly from his participation, although cut short. His personal efforts and contributions will long be remembered with gratitude. Steve and his wife Rita attended the CSI Construct 2015 in St. Louis the week before his heart attack, and those of us who attended the SCIP activities have fond memories of camaraderie and working with him to handle the expenses of the SCIP Annual Meeting. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rita and his family. Steve will be missed. I don't know who from SCIP authored the above, and I hope they don't mind my posting it here. Perhaps Stephen's comrades are all in shock or just too damn busy to care. I requested that Colin set up this Specifier's Memorial board when my friend and specifier Tom Heineman passed away. I've not seen many posts which I thought meant specifiers are living longer lives, now it seems when a specifier passes away few care or are just too damn busy. |

Jerome, Thanks for your comments and bringing Steve's passing to the attention of the specifier community. SCIP has been publishing the passing of its members since the website was launched in 1996. There was a similar tribute to Paul (Tom) Heinemann when he passed away. Steve is the first member of the SCIP board since 1996 to die while serving as a SCIP board officer. The probable reason other members don't comment is that many do not check the SCIP website from time to time. Many news items are left in place for several months, and even years, so members have a chance to see them when they check on the annual meeting announcements.
