Even though I specify preformed molded corners for resilient base, I always get field cut corners. Are molded corners a thing of the past? Does anyone install molded corners anymore?

My interior designers always request job-formed corners.

I always spec field-formed corners (inside and outside) and 100 ft long rolls, not individual 8 foot pieces. Many times factory made corners don’t exactly match color of roll goods, joints don’t align perfectly, and the short returns on factory corners like to come “unstuck”.

We spec it the way Doug mentions, for all the same reasons.

I spec field cut corners. Spec minimum 50 ft lengths, with minimum 3 ft return at corners.
Spec how interior and exterior cuts are to be made.
Have concern about factory corners getting knocked off durning cleaning.

I agree with Doug. Over time the difference in color between preformed and field-fabricated corners is more pronounced.

I hadn't thought of the color issue, but I have never seen or heard of any complaints or problems along those lines. I've always spec'd preformed outside corners (because field-formed don't lie flat) and job-formed inside corners (because they have fewer joints).
